Box’a’Fox

Browsers and tools

Where to put the host, port, username and password in common clients.

Any client that supports an HTTP or SOCKS5 proxy with a username and password works. The four values are always the same:

FieldValue
Hostgw.boxafox.com
Port8000
UsernameYour proxy username with tokens, for example acme_net_res_c_de_s_profile1_ttl_24h
PasswordThe proxy user's password

Browser profiles and anti-detect browsers

Choose the proxy type HTTP or SOCKS5 and fill in the four fields. Give each profile its own session id (_s_profile1, _s_profile2) with a long lifetime, so a profile keeps its IP and two profiles never share one.

Tools that take a single line usually accept host:port:username:password, which is the standard format of the list endpoints.

Command line

curl -x "http://acme_net_res_c_de:PASSWORD@gw.boxafox.com:8000" https://ipinfo.io/json
curl -x "socks5h://acme_net_mob_c_us:PASSWORD@gw.boxafox.com:8000" https://ipinfo.io/json

Many programs also read the HTTP_PROXY and HTTPS_PROXY environment variables:

export HTTPS_PROXY="http://acme_net_res:PASSWORD@gw.boxafox.com:8000"

Headless browsers

Playwright and Puppeteer take the server and the credentials separately:

const browser = await chromium.launch({
  proxy: {
    server: "http://gw.boxafox.com:8000",
    username: "acme_net_res_c_de_s_run1_ttl_30m",
    password: process.env.BOXAFOX_PROXY_PASSWORD,
  },
})

Checking it works

Open an IP lookup page through the proxy. If the request is refused, the gateway says why in the X-Proxy-Error response header: see Errors.
